It's almost time to say goodbye to a couple of beloved restaurants here in Eastern Iowa!

Back in late August, The General Store Pub in Stone City made a shocking announcement. The popular Jones County restaurant revealed that they would be shutting their doors at the end of October. The Facebook post reads:

"... the General Store will be closing as a bar/restaurant effective November 1st. We will be transitioning to offer private events such as weddings, holiday or corporate parties."

For the past couple of months, fans of The General Store have been visiting the historic restaurant to say their goodbyes. If you haven't stopped by for one final meal, time is running out! The restaurant's final day in business is October 29th. The kitchen hours are Thursday & Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday & Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The bar is open until 11 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays and until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The other area restaurant that's preparing to close its doors this month is Rodina. Located in the Czech Village, Rodina has consistently been one of the highest-rated restaurants in Cedar Rapids for the past five years that its been in business. They announced their closure back on June 1st, writing:

"With a profound and humbled thank you, we are announcing Rodina will be closing in November. When this project began, the stars aligned and allowed us to bring to fruition our dreams, supported by some epically talented and incredible people that we believe will have an impactful and lasting effect on the Iowa food scene. Our world has evolved a great deal in the 4.5 years Rodina was opened. Now, in the momentum of our best year yet, a changing wind is blowing, and it seems stars have shifted."

Rodina stopped serving their popular Sunday brunch in late August, but will continue with dinner service until Monday, October 30th. Their Facebook page says that "reservations will be limited (in both number and length)." Rodina is open Thursday through Monday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the last dinner seating at 8 p.m. You can check out the website HERE for more details.
